Le Mans is heavily influenced by early eighties post new wave dance music and the man vs. machine bodyrock sound of that era. Equally influential are the nu electro bands and 'electroclash' projects which have emerged as the techno and rave music of the 1990's and early 21st century continue to lose dominance in the club scene. Larry Tee (Mogul Electro, Electroclash 1 and 2), who has given positive reviews of the Coldlife in the Fastlane CD, describes Le Mans as a "dark and crunchy" brand of electroclash as the atomospheres in which the narratives occur seem a little seedier and more foreboding than some of the other electropop out there. Le Mans is the soundtrack for the situations, transactions, and rendezvous which occur in the shadowy alleyways of the metropolitan nightlclub as the beat still throbs through the concrete walls.
Le Mans originated as a groovebox/sampler/synth/vocoder project consisting of jam1sin and London's Holly Louis. The duo rehearsed in warehouse locations in downtown Los Angeles' factory district and performed live in Los Angeles as an semi-improvised act that resembled more of a dj set than a proper band. Though Holly is not a part of the Le Mans recordings, it is from these performances that the idea took shape. jam1sin, who is a primarily an actor and model, developed the concept into a focused project with fully actualized electro songs with vocals.
An added bonus of the Coldlife in the Fastlane CD is the guest appearance by Shane Jason. Trading off vocals with jam1sin "Candy Corner" and "Brainblockers", Shane offers an interesting counter-vocal to jam1sin's cold and stylishly mechanized crooning. A combination that Le Mans fan, internationally known pop artist Plasticfucker refers to as "priceless". Shane sings solo on "Freek Street" and has been compared to Matt Sims, for whom both jam1sin and Shane give full respect.
Le Mans has had radio play on various independent radio stations as well as L.A.'s Indie 103.1 and KLSX. For the next Le Mans release, Disco Related Injury, which is a cd and vinyl release, engineering help from Dirty Sanchez and collaborations with more electro artists are in store including Canada's Myra Phan and guest vocals by Liz Enthusiasm (Freezepop.NET), Alice Dee, DJ Trae-Ann of ELECTROboobies.
